Igitoi says allowance provided only for enumerators on recruitment list

National Statistician John Igitoi has clarified that there is a limited number of enumerators recruited for the population census operations.
Mr Igitoi made this remark following reports of a scuffle that on broke out between disgruntled National Capital District enumerators and security officers at the NCDC office on Sunday.
The chief statistician said a certain group who were not appointed to engage in the population census exercise in the nation's capital caused the misunderstanding over allowances.
"All the data collectors, there were supposed to be a limited number of people that were recruited," Igitoi said.
"So there were a lot of lists that came in. Those that missed out, thought that, so that's why there was something, so they sorted it out themselves.
"And city manager [Ravu Frank] just called me today and told me that all has been sorted out. Just the issues with the names of the list of people that were given, but you know, they could not accept."
Igitoi said allowances have also been dispatched to all the provinces which includes NCD.
NCD had initially committed K600,000 for the census operations with NSO also providing funding allocation for that matter.
"There's no issue because we already paid the ceiling last week to all the provinces, including NCD," Igitoi said when asked of allowance issues.
"NCD has already committed K600,000 for those guys, so anything, logistics and even allowance, they could have sorted out from the K600,000 that the governor [Powes Parkop] allocated for them.
"We also sent in the proportion of the money to the provinces, including NCD. I don't think there will be any issue."
Mr Igitoi said a further K44 million will be distributed across the country this week for the actual enumeration.
