BFPNG appoints new executive officer

The Basketball Federation of Papua New Guinea has appointed Christopher Topa as the new Executive Officer, replacing Miskus Lapan.

The PNGBF executive committee formally approved Mr. Topa's recruitment, marking an exciting new chapter for basketball in the country.

BFPNG president Emma Waiwai expressed her confidence in the new appointment, stating that Topa, has the potential to contribute enormously to the growth and development of the code in PNG. 

"We are thrilled to welcome Christopher Topa as our new Executive Officer. Mr. Topa brings a wealth of experience and a passionate commitment to basketball development in our nation,” Waiwai said.

“His vision and leadership will be invaluable as we strive to elevate basketball in Papua New Guinea.

“I have full confidence in Chris's ability to drive the growth of basketball in PNG.”

Topa has served in various organizations as an administrator. Currently employed as operations coordinator for Grass Skirt Project, he was the finance and marketing executive for Papua New Guinea Rugby Football League (PNGRFL) from 2013-2014.

He became the operations manager for PNGRFL in 2021, piling experience in the sports fraternity.   

On his appointment as BFPNG EO, Mr. Topa stated that he is honored to take on the federation's executive officer role.

“I am committed to working with our stakeholders to enhance and grow the game of basketball at all levels throughout PNG," the former PNGRFL administrator said.

The BFPNG also acknowledged the hard work and dedication of the outgoing executive officer, Miskus Lapan.

“Mr. Lapan's contributions have been instrumental in laying the foundation for the growth of basketball in the country. We extend our heartfelt thanks for his commitment and service.”
