Psychological support and post trauma counseling crucial for landslide affected people in Mulitaka

A team of mental health experts from the Laloki Psychiatric Hospital will travel to Enga Province this week to provide mental health support to the hundreds of people affected by the disastrous Mulitaka landslide that happened late last month.
Director of DSCMHS Dr. Uma Ambi says the team will be joined by other mental health staff from the Enga Provincial Heath Authority and will provide psychosocial support especially psychological first aid to victims
"Our team will give them psychological support during traumatic event, Emotional well-being to look after, and to reduce post traumatic complications such as PTSD depression, anxiety and acute stress disorders, build up human resilience and reduce stress symptoms, assisting them with healthy resources following post trauma service they need in this crucial time.
"We will provide post traumatic disorder which comes on after 4 to 6 weeks and acute stress disorder from the traumatic event to 4 weeks," Dr Ambi said.
The team will travel to Wabag as soon as logistics are in place.
