Census figures to be released by August

Papua New Guineans will have a better idea of the country's population by August this year.

Administrative Services Minister Richard Masere mentioned this at the National Press Club in Port Moresby today.

He stated that the National Population Census will take place throughout July, and they plan to present accurate figures to the Prime Minister by the end of August.

Minister Masere mentioned that preparations are underway, and they have received an initial payment of 80 million kina from the requested budget of 153 million kina. Additionally, they have already utilized 30 million kina to procure 22 thousand tablets and equipment.

An agreement has also been made with Digicel PNG to assist with the census rollout in the upcoming weeks and months.

He also announced that they will receive an additional 30-million-kina next week, and the remaining 43 million will be allocated to pay for allowances, logistics, and stationery when the census begins.

Minister Masere also appealed to all Papua New Guineans to support the census teams during the exercise, emphasizing its importance to the country's development and service delivery Population Census will run throughout July, and they will have some correct figures to present to the Prime Minister by the end of August.

Minister Masere has also appealed to all Papua New Guineans to support the census teams when they go out to conduct the exercise because it is an important event in the country's development and service delivery.
