18 join Opposition

Leader of Government Business and Finance Minister Rainbo Paita is among 18 members that defected from the government to the Opposition last night.

The move comes a few days before the much anticipated vote of no - confidence against Prime Minister Marape is reintroduced in parliament, this week.

Opposition Leader Douglas Tomuriesa confirmed to NBC News this morning that the alternate government team is camping at Santucary hotel in Port Moresby, which is now under lock down.

The key government ministers have joined the Opposition camp are Higher Education and Sports Minister Don Polye, Housing Minister Dr Kobby Bomareo, , Mining Minister Muguwa Dilu , Tourism and Arts and Culture Minister Isi Henry Leonard.

Other MP's include West New Britain Governor Sasindrin Muthuvel,  Menyamya's Solan Loifa, North Bougainville MP Francesa Semoso, Kompiam Ambun MP Sir John Pundari , Moresby North West MP Lohia Boe Samuel, Moresby North-East MP John Kaupa, Kokopo MP Ereman Tobaining Jnr , Milne Bay Governor Gordon Wesley, Okapa MP Saki Soloma , Salt Nomane MP Francis Alua, Kagua MP Maina Pano, Jimi MP Wake Goi and Wau - Waria MP Marsh Narewec.

Last night, West New Britain Governor Sasindrin Muthuvel posted on facebook, that majority of the Pangu MP's and coalition partners have expressed dissatisfaction in how Prime Minister Marape is running the country.

The alternate camp is expected to call a press conference.

In a statement this morning,  Prime Minister Marape has described the recent departure of 18 MP's from the Pangu camp as a blessing in disguise.

He acknowledged their contribution and support of the past five years, and further asked all citizens to respect their decision.

Mr Marape has stated that the government remains unshaken and any VONC Motion will be dealt by parliament and its process.

Parliament resumes this Tuesday at 2pm.
