Governor Rufina Peter opens 3-day Central Music Festival in Kwikila

The three-day Central Music Festival kicked of this morning at Kwikkila Station in the Rigo District of Central Province with Cultural Performances, string bands and a talent show from selected school students from within the province.

Governor of the Province and Patron of the Central Music Association Rufina Peter officially declared the festival open before the Rigo District Chief Executive Officer and President of the Central Music Association Allan Kedea.

"I would like to declare this inaugural Central Music, Arts and Culture Festival open"

The Governor says with the Provincial Governments focus on integral human development, the Music Festival is one way of promoting unity and the identity of the People of Central Province.

She says Music is the identity of the people of Central province.

The Governor has thanked the Central Music Association for driving the first of its kind Music Festival in the Province.

" But from the provincial government, we are thankful that one, we touched base with CMA and agreed that it was an important event or activity to implement, we gave responsibility to CMA and they did all the rest to bring this to where it is.

" So today I want you to join me in congratulating Allan Kedea and all of those who were involved in the preparation and the planning to bring us to this date" Ms Peter said.

Local Residents and those of the nearby villagers turned up in numbers to watch their popular string band belt out numbers and cultural groups take center stage to start off the three- day festival.

The central regena Hapoua Music Festival today saw the performance of Saroa String Band, Buria, Geana Bada, New Krymus, Royals of Hisiu and Hood Laggoon Brothers.

Imoti Cultural Group from Rigo , Kerere Manu cultural group from Abau , and  Iveiava Goilala Cultural Group were all there performing to the beat the kundu drums.

The festival continues tomorrow with the main event being the performance of solo artists and bands from the Province.
