Fun run top bidder in Lae auction (PNGOC)

The Lae edition of the Trukai Fun Run Auction held on Thursday proved to be a major drawcard among residents and the local business community, with 6, 200 t-shirts sold and K155, 000 raised.


The auctions are a pre-cursor fundraising event in the lead up to the annual Trukai Fun Run, which aims to promote unity in diversity with the theme Our Steps, Their Dreams.

All funds raised will be used to fund Team PNG’s participation at the upcoming 2024 Paris Olympic Games in July.


The Papua New Guinea Olympic Committee [PNGOC] and Trukai Industries Limited [TIL], the key stakeholders of the Trukai Fun Run, extend their heartfelt thanks to the Lae business community for their continued support of Team PNG.


The organizations are particularly grateful for the generous support and attendance at the Trukai Fun Run Auctions by government entities, business houses, and residents in support of Team PNG and local schools who are beneficiaries of the auctions.


The top five bidders of the auction were Hornibrook, Niugini Power System, Brian Bell Home Centers and Papindo Trading.


PNGOC Senior Vice President Tony Green took a moment to recognize and thank the Trukai Fun Run major sponsor, Trukai Industries Limited, “Trukai Industries Limited contributions have always played a pivotal role in supporting the nation’s elite athletes and will continue to do so in this year’s Olympic Games and in the years to come,” said Mr. Green.


“Since its inception in 1999, our remarkable partner, Trukai Industries Limited has supported Team PNG through the Trukai Fun Run initiative in 6 Commonwealth Games, 5 Commonwealth Youth Games, 7 Pacific Games, 6 Pacific Mini Games, 3 Youth Olympic Games, and 7 Olympic Games, including Paris 2024” Green added.


Acknowledging the organizations and government entities that participated in the auctions, Trukai Industries Chief Executive Officer Alan Preston acknowledged the commitment and support shown by the business community towards Team PNG.


“We are looking forward to working closely with the PNG Olympic Committee to make the Trukai
Fun Run another memorable event. This year the Trukai Fun Run event will be held on June 23 and we anticipate it to be bigger, better and safe for all to attend,” said Preston.


He reiterated, “The Trukai Fun Run is part of our legacy sponsorship as we have been a part of this for 24 years.


“Our commitment and support towards team PNG and the PNG Olympic Committee demonstrates how we envision sports as an agent of change and unity.

“It is through this platform that we are able to bring together people from different backgrounds.”
