There is always an inspiration that drives every player to elevate their performance when it comes to rugby league in Papua New Guinea, and family is what SP PNG Hunters second-row Whallan Tau-Loi finds his inspiration in.

Tau-Loi has been a mainstay in the Hunters lineup since the opening round of the QRL Hostplus Cup and has potentially gained the trust of coach Paul Aiton as one of the hardworking forwards.

The central native put up one of the season’s best performance with two tries, seven tackle breaks and two line breaks in last week’s 52-16 victory over Townsville Blackhawks.

“Just have faith in our attack. Trust the process and everything falls in line,” he said of the message behind the big win.

Inspired by his family, Tau-Loi continues to embrace his position with impressive statistics every game.

The Gaire lad is already showing promising signs to reach the pinnacle of rugby league in Papua New Guinea since joining Hunters late last season.

“I just want to do my best during every training session, turn up ready for each game and play my role,” he said.

A starting figure in Aiton’s weekly lineup, the former Central Dabaris stalwart is aiming to build on from the round 9 outing as the Hunters look forward to another grueling battle against competition leaders in North Devils at the Santos National Football Stadium.

Tau-Loi said he is eager on returning the favor for the trust bestowed upon him by coach Aiton with strong display on the pitch.

“There’s a lot of competition in the team on the edge but having that trust from the coach means a lot to me,” he said.

“I’ll definitely give my best for the home.”

Meanwhile, versatile trouper Alex Max also showcased a class with a hattrick, retaining the center position for the round 10 match this Saturday.

“His a really good player. His tough. Does big hit ups. His defense is on spot as well so looking forward to another big performance by him,” Tau-Loi said of his teammate.
