Katherine Johnson describes her dual citizenship as “precious gift”

A Papua New Guinean by heart, Katherine Johnson describe her citizenship recognition as a “precious gift”.
The 68-year-old, is the heartbeat behind the Operation Open Heart, since its inception giving Papua New Guineans an opportunity to get heart surgery in country, and a second chance to live.
She was part of the list of 48 new PNG citizens, presented their citizenship certificates recently in Port Moresby.

While receiving her dual citizenship certificate, she said "your support and belief in my commitment to this beautiful country are invaluable to me. I am truly thankful for your encouragement and guidance throughout this process.
Johnson’s bond to the country, can be traced to her great grandparents who were pioneer German Missionaries based in East New Britain Province.
"For me, today marks a significant milestone in my life's journey. Born in Rabaul and having strong familial ties that span five generations in this country.
"I have always felt a profound connection to Papua New Guinea. This land, with its rich cultural heritage and breathtaking landscapes, is not only my birthplace but also a part of who I am," Johnson said.
She said receiving PNG citizenship is a dream come true for her and a culmination of her lifelong connection to this nation.
"I am excited and proud to officially call myself a citizen of Papua New Guinea, and I pledge to contribute positively to its [PNG] growth and prosperity.
"As I stand before you today, I am filled with a deep sense of responsibility and commitment to uphold the values and principles that make this country so unique and special.
"I am eager to actively participate in its diverse communities, contribute to its development, and celebrate its rich cultural tapestry."
Deputy Prime Minister and Immigration Minister John Rosso during his key note address said the citizenship applications had gone through stringent process before getting approved.
"This is great privilege and I am grateful to each one of you. Utilize the citizenship and become a productive citizen of PNG."
