Caught red handed with same drug kits in court

Not a myth but a true meth story.

A young woman who turned up at the Waigani Committal Court on drug possession charges carried potential evidence for police to slap her with additional charges.     

According to a Police Report, on Tuesday, Cecilia Kumbakor, a 19-year-old female appeared in court on methamphetamine charges was rearrested inside the court room when police found meth implements in her possession.

Magistrate Paul Nii who was presiding over this trial in the National Capital District issued verbal instructions for police to search the 19-year-old after her abnormal behavior inside the Waigani Committal Court room.

A search made on Ms Kumbakor by a police detective who was in the court room found a bong and some ear buds in her possession.  The bong and ear buds are common implements used by people who smoke and inhale the methamphetamine drug.

Acting Commander NCD Central Peter Guinness said “[Ms] Kumbakor together with a male and two other women were previously arrested and charged for possessing and consuming methamphetamine,” while her accomplices were detained at Bomana Prison awaiting their court appearances, she was out on bail.

“The four [suspects] were in the court room yesterday when police found the meth implements in Kumbakor's possession.

“The discovery caused a furor inside the court room compelling Magistrate Nii to suspend the trial.

ACP Guinness said this particular incident is a wakeup call for police, the court and the legal fraternity.

“The police and the court must now seriously reconsider granting bail to people who are addicted to illicit drugs. “

Cecilia was later charged and detained at the Boroko cells.
