Goilala District furnishes financial report to DIRD

Goilala District in Central Province has submitted all its outstanding financial reports to the Department of Implementation and Rural Development [DIRD].
DIRD Secretary Aihi Vaki when receiving the financial acquittals dating back to the term of the former Goilala MP echoed the message of compliance in line with the Ombudsman Commission's notice to members of parliament.
The presentation was done on Wednesday in Waigani.
Early this year, the Ombudsman Commission released a notice, which showed a long list of 118 members of parliament yet to fulfill the law governing public monies.
DIRD Acting Assistant Secretary Nathan Kiri said “when funds are disbursed to the districts, there are respective guidelines and instruments that guides the use and applications of these funds.
“For Services Improvement Program, the administrative guidelines and financial instructions especially the National Procurement Act and the DDA Act dictates the manner in which these funds are utilize. Providing the report enable us to see the level of compliance.”
The furnished records of monies spent in the Central Province district, covers the last five years, under the term of the former Goilala M-P late William Samb and current MP Casmiro Aia.
Goilala District Development Authority CEO Titus Girau said, “Our delay was the high turnover in District Administrators (DDA CEOs) when I got replaced in 2019.”
Mr Girau was reinstated to office in November 2021.
District Finance Manager Sunaim Dau, who was employed for three months had the huge task of acquitting public monies received from Waigani.
“We encounter many challengers in terms of, no cheque copies, missing payment vouchers [and] no resolution attached [to payments made],” Mr Dau said.
