The Leader of the Opposition, Douglas Tomuriesa has made a call to the government to look into the welfare of the immediate families of Members who die while serving their term in parliament.

He made this statement while passing his condolences to family members and the people of Usino-Bundi electorate in Madang province for the untimely passing of the Late MP Jimmy Uguro while on official duty in East Sepik Province.

Tomuriesa said many members of parliament had passed on leaving their families in a state of confusion and shock, which the opposition is concerned about and asked the Marape-Rosso government to look into their welfare.

“May I suggest to this parliament that most of our brothers (MPs) in this parliament and in the last parliament have passed on and we forgot the young families they left behind.

“What can this parliament do and legislate in order for us to love and care and cherish the leadership they provided. The best thing we can do to mourn for a death is to care for a living ,”  Tomuriesa said.

Tomuriesa reiterated that it is very important government seriously look into the families especially the children’s welfare which he believe would be a very fitting recognition government can give back to their family.

Meanwhile, in remembering the great contribution Late Uguro made to this country especially in the Education sector, the opposition side of the government is grateful for the leadership he provided at the national level.

Tomuresia describes Late Uguro as a person with a soft heart and someone who didn't talk much but performed exceptionally well behind the scenes.

He assured every member on both sides of the house to put aside political differences and observe Late Uguro’s profound characters in serving humanity at all costs.

“To our people of Papua New Guinea, the only thing we can do is it to love one another and follow peace with all men,”  Tomuriesa concluded.
