Papua New Guinea international Alwin Komolong has signed a deal with Queensland Lions Football Club for the 2024 National Premier League Season.

Komolong made the announcement via his social media platform (Facebook), revealing the exciting news to football fans in the country and abroad of his move to the Australian second-tier competition.

After sitting out the entire 2023 season undergoing a knee surgery, Komolong is glad to be given the opportunity, which will see him back in action after thorough recovery at his new club.

Posting on his Facebook page on Wednesday, Komolong said it’s a great opportunity to compete in a new environment and looks forward to a great season with Lions.

“I’am glad to announce that I have signed with champion side Queensland Lions FC for the 2024 NPL season,” the PNG Kapuls defender shared on his facebook account.

“I want to take this time to thank everyone involved in my recovery and return to action over the last year, most importantly my family, friends and those close to me.

“I also want to thank the Lions FC for the opportunity to continue my recovery at the club as I make my way back into playing again.

“I still have a month and few weeks before I’m back on the pitch again.”

The Madang native is not new to signing deals overseas, having had a couple of stints in German's fourth-tier competition, the United States along with few clubs in Australia.

The former Lae City FC and PNG defender underwent surgery in Qatar after battling a knee injury that sidelined him the whole playing-roster last year.

Komolong has had a distinct football career in PNG notably for Lae FC.

He was instrumental in the Morobe-based franchise in the National Soccer League (now known as National Premier League) grand final in 2022, where they were crowned the champions after holding off rivals Hekari United 3-2.

In the same year, Komolong helped the Kapuls to win the inaugural MSG Prime Minister's Cup in Port Vila, Vanuatu.

The top-notch defender was primed for a big season last year but the unfortunate injury sustained, forced him out of club and national duties.

As he embarks on a new journey, Komolong is hoping to regain his form after completing necessary recovery and rehab process.
