Government commits to settling outstanding scholarship funds owed to Colleges and Universities
Outstanding scholarship funds owed to higher education institutions in the country for the 2023 academic year, will be paid in full by the Government.
This is the assurance by Treasurer Ian Ling Stuckey following outcry by the higher education sector a week ago.
Acting Secretary for the Department of Higher Education, Research, Science, and Technology (DHERST) Father Jan Czuba told the media recently that the Government owed the higher learning institutions a total K37-million in Tertiary Education Study Assistance Scheme or TESAS payments.
Treasurer Ian Ling-Stuckey said he has met with Higher Education Minister, Don Polye and Acting DHERST Secretary, Father Jan Czuba and they have agreed to ensure that all 8 Universities and all Colleges will receive their outstanding TESAS payment for the 2023 academic year.
At this same meeting it was also confirmed that the 2024 TESAS budget will be allocated K83 million.
The Universities and Colleges can now rest assured that payments will be promptly disbursed and payments for the transportation of students traveling to their respective institutions for the 2024 academic year will be met.
Mr Ling-Stuckey says he hopes students and parents can enjoy the festive season without concerns about outstanding TESAS payments.
Adding that the Government remains steadfast in its commitment to investing in its students thus honoring this vital investment.
