The monetary support under the second phase of the Civil Aviation Development Investment Project (CADIP) will extend to rural airstrips and also aviation institutions.

Under CADIP one, millions of kinas loaned from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) were only invested into works on selected provincial airports around the country.

Minister for Transport and Civil Aviation Walter Schnaubelt recently revealed that the rural airstrips of Hayfield in Maprik District, Tapini in Goilala District, Jacquinot in Pomio District and Finschhafen District will get monetary funding.

Meanwhile, Gurney Airport in Milne Bay recently had 76.8 Million-Kina contract awarded for redevelopment works, the first contract under CADIP Two.

Nearly 600 million Kina will be loaned from ADB to continue work on the provincial airports of East Sepik, West New Britain, Western Province and Bougainville.

“Four, we yet to tender” said Mr. Schnaubelt.

Furthermore, under the tranche of monies sourced from ADB, National Airport Corporation, Civil Aviation Safety Authority, Niusky Pacific and PNG Accident Investigation Commission will get funding support to upskill its personnel and equipment.
