The support by China towards Papua New Guinea continues to impel as bilateral partners in the political, economic and social sector.

As part of its charitable service to supporting PNG in time of need, a Chinese military plane brought humanitarian and disaster relief assistance supplies this morning.

The relief supplies transported to Port Moresby were donated by the People's Republic of China to assist those affected by natural disasters in February and March this year.

This generous move reinforces China’s continued assistance, adding on to the US$1 million [about K3.7 million] pledged by the Chinese government.

Chinese Foreign Affairs Minister Wang Yi during his visit over the weekend announced this funding support, adding to the earlier provision of US$100, 000 to the PNG government.

Mr Yi indicated on Saturday that the relief supplies would be brought this week for distribution by the national disaster center to various disaster-affected areas.

“China feels for the recent floods that have struck PNG and has provided emergency humanitarian assistance in cash,” Yi said on Saturday during his stay in the nation’s capital.

“We will deliver relief supplies and we hope that it will reach the people of PNG in disaster struck areas as soon as possible.”

He added that the generosity will certainly make a substantial difference in providing relief and assistance to those affected by the recent disaster in PNG.

Whilst the contents of the supplies have not been revealed, Dr Joseph has appealed to the national disaster center to reaffirm its commitment to utilizing them efficiently and effectively to support and uplift communities in need.
