The Department of Commerce and Industry this week launched its 2023-2027 Economic Sub-Sector plan and Corporate Plan 2024-2027 at Dynasty in Port Moresby.

The two significant plans were officially launched by Minister for Commerce and Industry Hon. Win Bakri Daki and witnessed by respective heads and representatives of key departments and agencies under the Ministry.

Minister Daki said over the years the Ministry had no economic sub-sector development plan which resulted in duplication of priority programs and projects between key departments and line agencies.

He emphasized that Economic sub-sector  plan will encourage proper coordination and direction going foward.

“Today [Tuesday] marks an important milestone for us at the Ministry of Commerce and Industry as we launch our first-ever Economic Sub-Sector Development Plan 2023-2027.

“Our objective is to develop strong business growth and increase investments by improving our business environment for commerce and industry development,” he said.

The Minister said that the plan has been designed to align with national development frameworks such as Medium-Term Development Plan four (4), Vision 2050, and the PNG Development Strategic Plan 2010-2030.

“We will also prioritize initiatives such as SME Agriculture Financing to strengthen the private sector, with a specific focus on Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, Co-operative Societies and Small to Medium Industries,” he said.

The event also featured the launching of the Department’s Corporate Plan 2024-2027 as well as the official announcement of the Department of Commerce & Industry’s (DCI) Official Website, Newsletter (DCI Insider Nius) and the 10 Internal Administrative Policies.

“These tools will serve as vital resources to inform and engage stakeholders and public with the department's activities,”said Secretary for DCI David Ganaii.

Mr. Ganaii said that the importance of these economic development plan, corporate plan, internal administrative policies, newsletter and website cannot be overstated as they will provide a roadmap for sustainable growth, improved governance and increased transparency within the department.

“This event, therefore, indicates the commitment of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry to fostering a thriving business environment and supporting the growth of key economic sectors in Papua New Guinea,” Mr. Ganaii said.
