The Royal Papua Yatch Club had the success following the conclusion of the 2026 International Three-Peak event in Port Moresby.

The three-peak consists of three events including Sailing, Running and Swimming which saw locals and expatriates compete in two categories for a full day on Saturday.

This year the Yatch Club saw about 20 cadets or juniors compete in the Hobie Division in pairs while the A-class consisted of about five individuals on a larger boat.

RYPC Captain Sailor, Cameron Taylor said as an annual tradition, the event starts off with sailing before selected participants swim to the shore, then run at a specific location through to the finish line.

“Every year in October, the RPYC puts on the 3Peaks event, which is a sailing, running and swimming event. The participating teams’ first sail out, get back to the islands then swim and run back into Port Moresby in the fastest possible time.” Captain Taylor said.

He said the Hobie division uses a smaller boat called a catamaran, enough to accommodate the skipper and his crew member.

“This race is really built for the Hobies because they race hard and as fast as they can to the first island, head for shore, then jump off the boat and then they run up the hill and vice versa.”

“For the bigger boats known as the keel boats, are required to park to allow the runners to swim ashore in the 3peak international.” He said.

The original three-peak’s international was established in the United Kingdom in 1977 before a member of the Royal Papua Yatch Club went over and adapted the concept and brought over to have a similar competition in Port Moresby in 1995.

Despite several halts in the past years, the three-peak international continues to get bigger and better each year.

Meanwhile this year’s three-peak international had some of the fastest time recorded in the one-day event which Mellona and Arua securing the Hobie Division title while the Star Dust team secured a back-to-back title as A-Class and Overall event winners.
