Gulf Komara crowned PSL back-to-back champions
Gulf Komara have officially capped off an outstanding domestic football season, claiming back-to-back titles in the Premier Soccer League following a quiet awards presentation in Port Moresby today.
The milestone triumph comes on the heels of a thrilling 2-goals-to-1 victory over Lae City FC in their final match last month, marking a historic high for the club's decade long history.
As part of their championship victory, the Port Moresby-based club walked away with the ultimate prize: the championship cup and a handsome K200,000 cash purse.
Gulf Komara Assistant Coach Mante Kavoe highlighted what the back-to-back success means for the franchise and its ongoing journey.
"Its overwhelming for especially the team. We really worked a lot during the past 10 years to build this club. Especially David Aua, the Head Coach. To win The nack to back title it's something you can't get every season. You know it comes back to the players, the effort, the management".
While Gulf Komara took top honors, the rest of the league's top four also secured substantial rewards for their efforts throughout the 2026 campaign. PNG Hekari FC claimed second place, walking away with K150,000 in prize money. Lae City FC secured third place, pocketing a K100,000 share of the prize pool. And Port Moresby Strikers rounded out the top four after wrapping up their campaign, earning K50,000.
Today’s presentations officially bring the curtain down on another action-packed season of elite domestic football in Papua New Guinea, setting the stage for a more competitive race in 2027.
