PNGDF Commanders Cup 2026 a success
The recently concluded 2026 PNGDF Commanders Cup has been hailed a success, bringing service members together in Port Moresby to foster camaraderie and force cohesion.
Tournament patron and PNGDF Commander, Rear Admiral Philip Polewara, commended the Igam Crocs for defending their title, praising the event's high intensity and smooth organization.
"They came to defend the Cup, and they are taking the cup back to Igam Barracks," Polewara said. He also acknowledged major sponsors—including NKW, CTSL and Santos—alongside NCD Governor Powes Parkop for giving the tournament prominence.
Governor Parkop emphasized the deeper value of the games, noting they serve as vital building blocks for unity ahead of the 2027 National General Elections.
"The PNG Defence will play a very vital, critical role, and the units need to be intact and cohesive," Parkop stated, praising the great spirit, competition, and rugby on display.
The tournament concluded on Monday, October 5, leaving organizers and leadership optimistic about the continued strength, discipline, and unity within the defense force ranks.
This year's tournament was hosted by the Headquarter Chiefs. Force Support Battalion will host the next Commanders Cup in 2028.
