Madang PEB forms El Nino sub committee
The Madang Provincial Education Board (PEB) has formed a 7th sub- committee for purposes of coordinating El Nino relief efforts in all schools in the province from Early Childhood to Primary, High, Secondary through to Technical Vocational Education Training or TVET institutions.
The El Nino Subcommittee was sanctioned by the Secretary for Education, Dr. Uke Kombra.
All provinces in the country are required to have this sub- committee.
In Madang Province, Provincial Administrator Daniel Aloi has also requested the same to be formed by the PEB.
The sub- committee comprises 10 members of the Madang Provincial Education Board, headed and by Rodney Selarn.
This sub- committee is tasked to put together a technical team which will coordinate with District Education Authorities, Church Agencies, school inspectors, school administrators, and school emergency committees to provide data for every level of school.
The data collected will be on water situation, food situation, daily attendance to class by students, teachers conditions at schools, health and sanitation issues, additional information on unforeseen consequences of El Nino.
The data will be captured and recorded by the technical team, overseen by the El Nino sub- committee, and will verify the information and present it to the Office of the Madang Provincial Administrator.
The Office of the Provincial Administrator, which is working in close consultation with the Office of the Madang Governor, will then use the data to engage technical officers and strategic stakeholders to provide appropriate assistance.
The focus of assistance will mainly be on water access and possibly provision of food.
Schools can access the templates for data entry from the technical team at the office of the Madang Provincial Education Board through its executive officer.
