Kaintiba LLG faces El Nino effects

Kaintiba Local Level government area has also been hard hit by the effects of El nino at this time.

According to the Kerema District youth council president, Japhet Yamando, safe drinking water has become scarce after water in the tanks dried up.

He said the people turned to the little creeks for drinking and cooking for many months until now these creeks have also dried up.

Yamando said the people are now drinking and cooking using water from the two big rivers locally known as Naguta and Na Nenemba.

He said the long dry spell has also affected food crops in the gardens which are dying affecting also domesticated animals as a result.

Apart from plants and animals little children have also been falling sick mainly with diarrhoea, as such parents have been made aware to boil the water and let it cool for consumption.
