More than 5000 grade ten students sit for final exam in Madang
A total of 5,145 nominated grade ten students are writing their final examination papers in Madang Province this week.
Provincial Education Director Alphonse Igag explained these are students who have been issued their candidate's number by the Department of Education.
Mr Igag said that despite the ongoing El Nino period, the grade ten examination is time bound, and there is no alternative but to start today, Monday 5th October.
"This is a fixed activity, so despite the challenges posed by El Nino and the unavailability of examination funds, the examinations still proceed. Madang Province has 36 secondary and high schools sitting the 2026 National Grade 10 Examinations," he said.
He said districts like Middle Ramu and Gama Local Level Government in Usino/ Bundi, which do not have road connection to the provincial capital, their leaders have hired helicopters to airlift the examination materials to their schools.
"The Madang Provincial Education authorities acknowledge the support of the Member for Middle, Kansol Harwai Kamdaru and his District Development Authority for the ongoing support over the years towards the successful delivery of examinations to grades 10 and 12 students during this time of the year.
"We also extend our gratitude to other MPs and their DDAs for their support as well.
The Madang Provincial Examinations Supervisor for Grade 10 Examinations, Darren Seming has kept school principals well informed of Examinations dates, collection and distribution of examination packages, supervision arrangements between neighboring schools and collection of examination papers after the completion, and dates to return the examination scripts.
School principals have responded positively and have ensured that examination papers have been stored in secured places before commencing today.
Mr Igag said the Education Division does not anticipate any major hiccups to the start of the examinations.
"We wish every grade 10 student in Madang Province and throughout PNG every success in the 2026 National Grade 10 Examinations," he added.
