Family of late Dr. Waiye unhappy over delay
The family of the late Dr. Robert Waiye has expressed dissatisfaction after his murder case was further deferred to Wednesday, despite being directed for a second mention today by the presiding Magistrate.
Relatives of the late doctor arrived at the Kundiawa District Court this morning for what was expected to be the second mention as directed by the Magistrate last Friday.
However, police requested the matter be adjourned to Wednesday to correct errors in the information laid before the court.
Apa Dama, representing the relatives of the late Dr. Waiye, pointed out errors in the police information, where the late doctor's name was misspelled as "Waine" instead of Waiye, and his origin was incorrectly written as "Sinasina-Yongomugl Province" instead of Sinasina-Yongomugl District.
Mr. Dama said they respect the law and have placed everything under the law, but such errors and delays were disappointing.
"We have lost a son who came to serve his own people, but we are still respecting the law. All we ask is for police to be serious and do their job properly," Mr. Dama said.
In response, Simbu Provincial Police Commander, Detective Superintendent Mazuc Rubiang, assured the family that all errors since Friday have now been corrected and the seven suspects have been charged under one offence.
He said by Wednesday the court will hear the matter into the death of Dr. Waiye.
PPC Rubiang commended the family for their patience and appealed for their continued cooperation, saying together they will ensure justice is served.
He also confirmed that Dr. Ronald Conn, who accompanied Dr. Waiye on the night of the incident, was charged today and will also appear on Wednesday.
The late Dr. Waiye, 26, from Gera village in Sinasina-Yongomugl District, died on September 16 after allegedly being assaulted at Gateway Fuelers at Prenorka on the night of September 15. Seven suspects remain in custody.
