NCD Rugby Union concludes 2026 season with plans to expand

The National Capital District Rugby Union [NCDRU] has wrapped up its 2026 season following grand final fixtures held at Bava Park in Port Moresby on Sunday.

The season finale saw the Air Transport Wing [ATW] Falcons claim a double victory, securing both the Under-20 title against the Southern Chiefs and the Premier Men’s division title over the Blue Heelers.

NCDRU Treasurer Selwyn Siriman confirmed that financial support from NCD Governor Powes Parkop enabled the union to complete its 10-week competition schedule successfully.

"This year’s competition comprised six community-based clubs, and we are proud to bring teams together from as far as Laloki to compete," Siriman said.

"We have a number of disciplinary service teams represented by local youths alongside young professionals who play and help support the administration of the competition."

The regular season was hosted at the Bomana Police College [Kerepia] oval over 10 weeks before shifting to Bava Park for the finals.

Following the successful men's campaign, executive management under NCDRU President Ase Boas plans to revive the local women’s rugby union competition next season with dedicated coaching support.

"We are working towards bringing back the women's competition and engaging skilled coaches," Siriman said.

"It is not just about running a competition, but teaching core skills and rugby values to female players."
