From Ireland to PNG: Fr. John Glynn at 90

Former teacher, chaplain and counsellor of Jubilee Catholic Secondary School, and founder of Wecare and YACA, Fr. John Glynn, celebrated his 90th birthday on Sunday.

Born and raised in Ireland, Fr. John was educated by the Christian Brothers and later by the Vincentian Fathers before moving to Papua New Guinea in 1963.

For more than six decades, Fr. John has served communities in Papua New Guinea as a priest, teacher, chaplain and counsellor.

His life and ministry have been characterised by a deep commitment to young people, education, women, children and people experiencing hardship and vulnerability.

His contribution to Papua New Guinea extends well beyond the parish.

Fr. John also played a role in the early development of Digicel Papua New Guinea, assisting the company when it established operations in the country in 2007 and subsequently serving as a member of its board.

Over the years, Fr. John Glynn has touched countless lives through his service, compassion, mentorship and advocacy.

His work has crossed the boundaries of the church, education, business and community development, making him a respected figure among many communities in Papua New Guinea.

As he celebrates 90 years of life, his journey stands as a testament to a life devoted to service.
