Sharks outclass Moragini to claim TRL premiership title

Tauruba Rugby League powerhouse Gubuli Sharks produced a mesmerizing performance to defeat the resilient Moragini Diggers 14-6 and secure the premiership title at the Tauruba Primary School Oval on Saturday.

The victory capped off an entertaining contest, with the Sharks holding off a spirited Moragini outfit to lift the trophy.

"We knew Moragini were going to put on a tough game," Sharks skipper Lakana Suli said. "But we came prepared and came out victorious. This win is for the players and our management for their efforts in supporting the club."

The much-anticipated grand final kicked off at a frantic pace, with Sharks fullback Ryan Suli taking a bone-rattling hit from Moragini defenders on the first hit-up.

Moragini came out firing early, led by star forward Naokila Gulaga, who set a strong physical platform for the men in black and white.

However, the Sharks drew first blood when sharpshooter Buga Solomon calmly slotted an early penalty goal to give his side a 2-0 lead.

Moragini responded swiftly. Gulaga broke through the Sharks' defensive line to score near the uprights, putting his side ahead 6-2 following a successful conversion.

The crowd favorites fought back quickly through second-rower Daniel Mac, who crossed the line to level the scores at 6-6.

Sharks playmaker Kila Suli then took control of the contest, expertly directing his attack. The five-eighth delivered a crucial moment late in the first half, executing a precise chip kick into the corner for rising centre Garo Joseph to touch down.

Solomon converted the difficult sideline attempt, extending the Sharks' lead to 12-6 at the halftime break.

The physical 60-minute contest escalated in the second stanza as both teams traded heavy tackles. The mounting aggression saw two Sharks players sent to the sin bin for dangerous tackles.

Despite playing a man down, the Buga Lalai-coached side showed exceptional resilience in defense, repeatedly turning away Moragini’s attacking raids.

Sharks maintained their composure under intense pressure to hold off Moragini’s late comeback attempt, before Solomon sealed the 14-6 victory with a late penalty goal.

The Sharks walked away with the premiership trophy and K600 in prize money, sponsored by Credi Mobile.
