‘Big-game composure’: Eels confident ahead of TRL decider

The Tauruba Rugby League Association is set to witness an explosive weekend of football as the grand finals take center stage in both the A and B-grade divisions at the Tauruba Primary School Oval this Saturday.

Saturday’s grand final fixtures will open with the B-grade decider between the Gubuli Sharks and the Moragini Diggers. The Sharks will be looking to avenge their qualifying loss after going down to the Diggers a fortnight ago, while the Diggers are determined to lift the trophy following their grand final loss to the Eels last season.

The premier division main match features a heated rivalry between the Lamana Eels and the Dogolo United Raiders as both clubs battle for local supremacy.

Eels veteran William Vetui told NBC News the squad is prepared for a tough physical encounter after a productive preparation.

“The boys have been training well. We had a week off, but we’ve trained very well over the last two weeks,” Vetui said.

“They’ve been in camp for the last week, which has built very good team spirit heading into this weekend’s match against Dogolo United.”

Vetui added that while both sides share roots in the local system, the Eels' big-match experience could prove decisive.

“DU Raiders are made up of Tauruba Wallabies players, and so are the Eels. DU Raiders don't have much grand final experience, but we boast a lot of experience," he said.

“With our young guns coming up, the speed they have, and the experience we possess, our experience should get the better of the Raiders throughout the game.”

The Raiders enter the clash with an agile backline boosted by Molabu Kapana and Olova Tipuna, setting up an exciting matchup against Eels duo Bobby Koaim and Anthony Gumu.

The Green Machine charge will be led by raging forward Bruno Raga, whose consistent form has driven his side to the final dance.

However, the Eels will lean heavily on their veteran composure as they look to reclaim the premier title after missing out last year.
