Australia sends Independence wishes to PNG
Australia has congratulated Papua New Guinea on its 51st Independence anniversary, with a special message to the people of Morobe Province and Lae.
Australian Consul-General in Lae, Brenton Kanowski, extended the message on behalf of the Australian Government, describing Lae as a community he is proud to call home.
Kanowski praised the resilience, warmth and strong sense of community among the people of Morobe and Lae.
He also highlighted the close relationship between Australia and Papua New Guinea, saying the two countries share a unique and enduring friendship built on their common history.
“Today, we are more than just neighbours or friends – we are allies,” Kanowski said.
He wished the people of Papua New Guinea a happy Independence Day as the country marks 51 years since gaining independence from Australia.
