Broncos blow away Vikings to stay on track for historic treble

London’s heavy hitters are two-thirds of the way to a historic clean sweep.

Jason Demetriou’s London Broncos have claimed the 1895 Cup with a 32-10 victory over a brave Widnes Vikings outfit at Warrington’s Halliwell Jones Stadium, putting one hand on an elusive lower-tier treble.

Fresh off locking up the Championship League Leaders’ Shield eight days prior, the capital club was forced into a bare-knuckle brawl for 60 minutes before blowing the contest wide open late.

Wakefield Trinity loanee Neil Tchamambe opened the scoring on the right edge off a crisp Brandon Webster-Mansfield pass, before Widnes struck back. Nick Gregson stripped the ball off Broncos playmaker Dean Hawkins in a one-on-one steal, setting up veteran back-rower Danny Langtree to crash over.

Hawkins made amends moments later with a dummy-and-go from close range, but penalty goals from Widnes’ Danny Richardson kept the Vikings within striking distance at 12-10 heading into the final quarter.

The dam wall finally broke on 58 minutes. Connor O’Beirne’s subtle grubber found Perth Bears-bound utility Luke Smith, before Hawkins forced a mistake under the sticks for Alex Walker to pounce.

Late four-pointers to Tchamambe and Robert Mathias added the gloss on a night dominated by Hawkins, who was awarded the Ray French Award as Player of the Match.

Backed by a high-profile syndicate featuring Australian rugby league icon Darren Lockyer and businessman Grant Wechsel, London has been absolute dynamite in 2026 - winning 22 of 23 games while averaging nearly 63 points a match.

While the 1895 Cup success won't directly boost their all-important IMG grading points, the momentum is massive. With three of the last four 1895 Cup winners now operating in the top flight, Demetriou’s men are building a bulletproof case for a return to Super League by 2027.

Widnes coach Allan Coleman pulled no punches post-match, acknowledging his side simply ran out of petrol against the competition's benchmark.

"You could see in that last 15 minutes, we were running on empty," Coleman admitted. "They were just too quick for us and we blew… They were deserved winners, but I think the scoreline flatters them a bit."

The Broncos now turn their attention to the Championship finals series to complete the three-trophy sweep.
