Joseph Manu is PNG Chiefs 007

Former Sydney Roosters and New Zealand Kiwi Joseph Manu is officially PNG Chiefs player number 007.

The two-time NRL premiership winner is confirmed to join the Chiefs in 2028, making a return to rugby league after switching to rugby union in 2025.

Manu's signing with the Chiefs follows his visit to Port Moresby last month.

After taking weeks to ponder of his future, the Kiwi finally agreed to the deal and he will join a host of stars in 2028 in the likes of Jerome Luai, Zac Lomax, Bryan To'o, Matty Lees, Conor Watson and Alex Johnston.

PNG Chiefs General Manager for Football Michael Chammas described Manu as a versatile player and the Chiefs will be happy to have him in their inaugural year.

“We’re thrilled to add Joey to our squad moving forward,” Chammas said.

“He is a world-class footballer with versatility across several positions and can change a game in a single moment with the skills he possesses.

“His experience and demonstrated success at the highest level will be a great benefit to our team and we can’t wait to see him have a significant impact in the Chiefs jersey.”

PNG Chiefs CEO Lorna McPherson described Joseph Manu as a player with Pacific heritage, specifically Cook Islands and his Pacific connection speaks volume of his decision to be part of the PNG Chiefs.

He also becomes the first New Zealand international to sign with the PNG Franchise.
