Duma urges PNG to embrace modern technology

State Owned Enterprises Minister William Duma has urged Papua New Guineans to embrace modern technology to ensure the country keeps pace with global advancements.

Speaking at the official opening of the new Datec retail showroom in Lae on Friday, Duma praised the company for its long-standing service and commitment to introducing innovative technology into the country.

“We must rise to level with the world,” Duma said.

“Nations are competing through knowledge, innovation, and technology, and we too must remain relevant amid these ever-evolving technological changes.”

Duma emphasized that as the minister responsible for state enterprises, he consistently encourages corporate entities, particularly monopolies and near-monopolies, to remain commercially competitive and customer-focused.

“Their services must be globally relevant, and Datec is a clear example of this,” he said.

Datec PNG chairman Moses Maladina said the firm remains committed to leading the nation's technology sector and expressed strong business confidence in Lae and the Momase region.

Maladina said that rapidly evolving platforms such as Artificial Intelligence [AI] are advancing at an extraordinary pace globally.

“Students, businesses, government agencies, and the private sector accessing Datec services will not be left behind by the remarkable solutions our company offers to ensure everyone remains productive and competitive,” Maladina said.

“The new showroom in Lae demonstrates Datec’s commitment to ensuring the people of Morobe have direct access to the latest technologies, backed by expert technical support and service.”
