4 dead in dinghy mishap in MBP
A dinghy ferrying passengers to Cape Vogel village of Makamaka LLG in Alotau District, overturned yesterday afternoon while crossing from Girumia point to Sibiribiri in Milne Bay Province.
Details surrounding the incident are still sketchy. However, Makamaka LLG president, Lloyd Franklin, in a text message to NBC news, said a dinghy carrying ten people overturned at around 5:30pm on on Thursday, while crossing from Girumia Point in Weraura LLG to Sibiribiri Point in Makamaka LLG, Alotau District.
Franklin said among the ten, three adults - two male and one female survived the incident.
Four females - a student and three adults have been confirmed dead while three adults -a female and two males are still missing.
He said the four deceased were transported on Friday evening to Baiawa Village, Makamaka LLG.
Traveling by dinghy from Alotau to Girumia point would take about six to seven hours, while the journey from Girumia to Cape Vogel is estimated about seven to eight hours depending on the.
