Protecting PNG’s frontiers: Border Command launches strategic plans
The Border Command of Royal Papua New Guinea will make history on Friday, July 10 when it launches its first-ever suite of corporate publications and officially unveils its new logo and motto 'Pawarim lo Boda'.
The launch, to be held in the morning of the final day of the RPNGC Police Planning Workshop, represents the first time Border Command has developed a comprehensive package of strategic planning, governance and corporate communication documents.
The publications include the Border Command Strategic Management Plan 2026–2030, Provincial Implementation Guide, East Sepik Strategic Plan of Action 2026–2028, West Sepik Strategic Plan of Action 2026–2029, and the inaugural edition of the 'Pawarim Lo Boda' newsletter.
A highlight of the ceremony will be the official unveiling of the logo and motto, which Commander Steven Francis said symbolizes the command's identity, professionalism and commitment to protecting Papua New Guinea's international borders.
Francis said the publications represented more than policy documents.
"These publications set the direction for Border Command over the next five years. They provide our officers with a clear vision, measurable objectives and practical guidance to protect Papua New Guinea's borders while serving our border communities with professionalism and integrity," ACP Francis said.
He said the strategic plans would strengthen planning, improve operational coordination and ensure every provincial command aligned its activities with the command's national priorities.
"Border security is no longer the responsibility of one agency alone. It requires partnerships with communities, provincial governments, national agencies and our international counterparts. These publications reflect that collaborative approach."
On the unveiling of the official Border Command logo and the motto, ACP Francis said it represented the command's unity and evolution and its drive to 'power the border' command.
"The unveiling of our official logo signifies the growth and maturity of Border Command. It gives our officers a distinct identity and reflects our shared commitment to protecting the sovereignty of Papua New Guinea while serving with honour, courage and professionalism," he said.
"And the motto 'Pawarim Lo Boda' signifies our commitment to protecting the border, strengthening partnerships, and empowering communities to work together in safeguarding Papua New Guinea’s national interests.
"The motto reflects the Border Command’s vision of a united approach where police, government agencies, border communities and international partners collaborate to secure PNG’s land and maritime frontiers."
He said the launch of the 'Pawarim Lo Boda' newsletter would also provide a platform to recognize the work of officers serving in some of the country's most remote and challenging locations.
"Our officers continue to make sacrifices every day to secure Papua New Guinea's borders. Through Pawarim Lo Boda, we want to share their stories, celebrate their achievements and keep our stakeholders informed of the work Border Command is undertaking," he said.
"The launch reflects Border Command's theme, "Protecting and Serving the Frontline of Our Nation's Borders, and marks a new chapter for the command as it strengthens institutional planning, accountability and communication to meet increasingly complex cross-border security challenges."
