Madang United Football Club registered their second victory at home after defeating Admiralty Island FC 2-1 at Laiwaden Oval on Saturday.

The round 5 National Premier League clash was played in front of a strong crowd of supporters for both teams.

The win by Madang United came after suffering a narrow 1-0 defeat to Finschhafen Bavarian FC in their midweek encounter last Wednesday.

Admiralty Island FC dominated the first half, with Doncy Sailas opening the score in the 8th minute mark to give the visitors a 1-0 lead heading into halftime.

The host side returned strongly in second half and managed to equalise through a penalty kick in the 54th minute. Linus Ginarem calmly converted from the spot to level the score at 1-1.

With the game heading towards full time, Nicky Bonze stepped up, producing the winning goal three minutes before fulltime to seal a dramatic 2-1 victory for Madang United.

Head Coach Amos Romo spoke highly of his players determination and strong second-half performance despite trailing in the opening stanza.

“I thank the players for the effort they put in during the second half of the game,” Romo said.

He also thanked supporters for turning up in numbers during the club’s three home games in Madang and urged fans to continue backing the team.

“To all our supporters, fans, and families, please come and support our boys this Wednesday as they take on Port Moresby Strikers at 3pm at Laiwaden Oval,” he said.

Meanwhile, assistant coach of Admiralty Island acknowledged his players for their efforts in a tough match. He said the team created several goal-scoring opportunities but failed to convert them.

He added his team needs to improve on finishing chances and encouraged supporters to continue backing the club, saying there are many more games ahead and the team will continue to improve.

Madang, are currently sitting second on the ladder with nine points after three wins and two losses. The Amos Romo-coached side's next home match is against Port Moresby Strikers this Wednesday as they look to maintain their winning form.
