Electoral roll updating program launched
The 2026 Electoral update for Northern Province, as well as the photo roll program for Popondetta were launched last Wednesday by Minister for Administrative Services Richard Masere.
Masere said the district has allocated K700,000 towards the photo roll updating program to be conducted within Popondetta.
The local MP said the photo roll updating program is part of the biometric element, which the provincial electoral office will coordinate to ensure all eligible voters in Popondetta are captured in the photo roll updating program.
He said the biometric or electronic voting system is the way forward to conduct election, and Popondetta district is the first district in Oro to take the lead in this process before 2027 National Election.
"The electoral roll is the only way to make elections better, stronger, and more credible, so this is the journey popondetta district is taking," he said.
Masere said the district will partner with PNG Electoral Commission to ensure they achieve the outcome of the photo roll updating program for the district .
Provincial election manager Daisy Hombogani thanked Masere for making funds available to roll out the program in Popondetta.
Ms. Hombogani assured Minister and people of Popondetta district that the provincial electoral office is ready to conduct the photo roll updating program starting on the 15th of June, 2026.
Hombogani urged locals to work closely with the provincial electoral office to see the updating program conducted smoothly throughout the district.
