Misima northcoast roads washed away

The north coast roads on Misima Island have taken a huge hit, making travel to Bwagaoia station a struggle.

Clearing work by locals and help of machinery by Misima Mines Ltd, subsidiary of Ok Tedi Mining Ltd is progressing to bring temporary relief for people who use this highway as a lifeline to service.

He confirms bridges, culverts and most access roads were either washed away or blocked off by landslips, the largest at Siagara west.

One person who regularly uses this highway confirms it’s at a stage where only four wheel drive light vehicles can access.

Local Stanley Jack who recently drove the roads tells NBC News the extent of damages on these northcoast roads.

Machinery from Misima Mines Ltd, subsidiary of Ok Tedi Ltd operating as Misima Mines Ltd are reportedly helping with some of this clearing of the roads as it is.
