Schools disrupted in NCD
Most schools in the National Capital District have sent students home today due to growing safety concerns.
The disruption comes as many students from areas such as Tokarara, Hohola, and nearby settlements were unable to travel to school because of the tense situation at Murray Barracks.
NBC News visited several schools along major roads and observed hundreds of students leaving school early and walking home.
Many appeared concerned as they made their way back, while parents and guardians were seen trying to reach their children.
Among the affected schools are Boroko Primary School in Waigani, Boroko East Primary, and several private schools around the Morata One and Two areas.
School authorities made the decision to dismiss students early as a precaution to ensure their safety.
The situation may have also affected other schools across the city, but this is yet to be fully confirmed.
NBC News is continuing to gather more information and will provide updates as details become available.
In the meantime, the public is urged to remain calm and stay informed through NBC’s news platforms online, radio, and television for the latest developments.
