Bulolo DDA assists CHW students
The Bulolo District Development Authority under the leadership of Bulolo MP, Sam Basil Jnr, presented K105,600 as upfront school fee payment for 27 Bulolo students to the administration of the Assembly of God [AOG] Community Health Workers training college yesterday.
This is an initiative of the former late Bulolo MP, Sam Basil [Bulolo Corporate Basil Sponsorship] which is now honored by the current DDA, continues supporting the health, education and TVET sector in the district.
Bulolo MP, Basil Junior, says this is to prepare students to be fit and competent.
"It is fitting to support these sectors and have fit and competent professionals for the workforce and it is also important for the mining district to have them well equiped to be able to perform to the capacity expected by the industry."
Bulolo Cheif Executive Officer Joseph O'Brian Paru in his speech yesterday stated that the screening panel only accepted the letters that reached his office.
Paru said; "this program benefits students who wishes to serve in the district for five years after college, as per the agreement each student signs when included in the program.
"And therefore, the only sectors that benefiting for the district is the two main sectors Health and Education and trade and mining skills are necessary for our district is a mining area."
The district is also preparing workforce before hand for the upcoming Wafi Golpu mining activity takes place. Institutions that have benefitted from the program are; Balob Teachers College, Bulolo Technical College, Mineral Resource Authority Mining centre, AOG CHW and Polytechnic College of PNG to be added on to the list.
The CHW Bulolo sponsorship had sponsored its first Bulolo students to Kwikila Training Institute CHW School in Central Province however, BDDA now chose to send students to AOG CHW Training college in Lae.
The sponsored students now are the second batch of the program in AOG CHW Training college.
