Air Niugini’s new airbus A220 makes grand debut on Asian tour
Air Niugini’s fleet modernization journey reached new grounds this week as its first Airbus A220-300, registered as P2-PGA, touched down in Japan following a high-profile stopover at Singapore’s Changi Airport.
The aircraft is currently participating in a two-day special airshow arrangement in partnership with Airbus. This international tour serves a dual purpose in showcasing the A220’s operational efficiency and promoting Papua New Guinea’s national carrier to a global aviation audience.
The P2-PGA’s distinctive livery, which features traditional Papua New Guinean motifs, has become a focal point of the tour. By "flying the flag" in major aviation hubs like Singapore and Japan, Air Niugini is positioning itself as a modern player in the Asia-Pacific region.
"This collaboration highlights Air Niugini’s commitment to modern, efficient aircraft," the airline stated. "It reflects our growing partnership with Airbus as we position our national carrier alongside leading airlines from around the world."
The Airbus A220-300 is crucial to Air Niugini’s strategy to improve regional connectivity. Known for its fuel efficiency and passenger comfort, the aircraft is expected to revolutionize the airline’s domestic and short-haul international routes.
