Construction of the DDA-funded Buin International Market in South Bougainville is progressing well, with the project expected to be completed by the end of 2026.

South Bougainville MP Timothy Masiu has commended the contractor, KPT Engineering Ltd, for keeping the project on track and delivering steady progress on site.

Mr Masiu assured the public that the new market will soon provide a modern and well-equipped facility for the people of Buin and nearby communities. He said the target completion date is around November or December and could be earlier if work continues at the current pace.

The latest update shows perimeter fencing is now 82 percent complete, while overall civil works stand at 38 percent.

Construction of the market buildings is also advancing, with the A and B wings 55 percent complete, and the C and D wings at 60 percent.

Other ongoing work includes foundation construction, concrete pouring, and installation of structural supports across all sections of the market.

Mr Masiu also commended local workers involved in the project, saying they are gaining valuable skills by working alongside experienced tradesmen, skills that will benefit them long after the project is completed.
