Prime Minister James Marape departed Papua New Guinea yesterday to attend the 13th annual World Governments Summit in Dubai. The visit, which runs through February 3-5, focuses on global economic governance and high-level investment engagements.

The Prime Minister aims to identify world-class Artificial Intelligence [AI] systems to integrate into PNG’s government operations. He said this technology will help reduce human emotion and interference in critical decision-making, improving public administration transparency and efficiency.

Marape said participation in the summit is a strategic step toward securing ICT and AI proponents to support the government’s Reset@50 reform agenda.

He said Dubai is a global epicentre connecting markets in Europe, Asia, and Africa, hence, it is important PNG must be present in these spaces to attract investment and expand trade.

During the trip, Ambassador-Designate Frank Aisi will be formally presented. He will lead PNG’s new diplomatic and trade presence in Dubai, serving as a gateway for the nation's exporters and businesses across the Middle East and Africa.

Under the theme "Shaping Future Governments," the summit hosts over 150 governments and technology leaders to discuss innovative solutions for global challenges, specifically targeting future-ready governance and economic growth.

The Prime Minister accepted a personal invitation from Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to participate.

While Marape is overseas, the Deputy Prime Minister John Rosso will oversee government business to ensure continuity.
