K7 million support for churches in Hela
Support will be given to churches across Hela Province, with K7 million allocated for the construction of the Hela Council of Churches headquarters in Tari.
“The different churches and denominations we have need a single command and control centre so that church work can be properly coordinated, flourish, and receive support where it is needed most.” Hela Governor Philip Undialu said.
The Governor assured church leaders of his continued support and commitment to working closely with faith-based organisations.
He also highlighted the importance of youth development and called on church leaders to identify young people who are interested in formal pastor training.
Governor Philip Undialu said a total of K14 million has been set aside in the 2026 budget for church-related programs and activities throughout the province.
“This is just the beginning. If more youths show interest, I will increase the funding.
“Our focus is on our youths. Some can go for pastor training; others can enroll at TVET or FODE centers. We must not allow our youths to remain idle and aimless in our communities.” Governor Undialu said.
Governor Undialu further praised tertiary students and church groups for organising crusades in communities affected by tribal fighting, saying such efforts have helped restore peace and allow displaced families to return home.
“The K500,000 allocated is to support these kinds of crusades.
“In some places where law enforcers and formal peacemakers have not been able to reach, organized crusades have played an important role in changing mindsets and transforming people’s lives. I truly appreciate those who sacrifice their time and resources to make this happen.” He confirmed.
Of the K14 million, K7 million is allocated specifically for the construction of the Hela Council of Churches headquarters. The remaining K7 million will support church initiatives, including K6 million for Church Partnership Programs, K500,000 for pastor training, and K500,000 for church-led crusades.
The funding was announced last week during the first Hela Provincial Assembly Meeting and the official presentation of the 2026 provincial budget.
