Schools, businesses, and public transport services were disrupted his morning cross the 2-Mile Hill and Badili areas in the Moresby South electorate following a weekend of escalating violence.

The disruption follows an incident on Saturday night where settlers allegedly fired upon a patrolling police vehicle. In response, security forces conducted a raid and eviction at the Rabiagini settlement on Sunday.

The morning commute turned chaotic as gunshots continued to ring out in the affected areas.

The main road connecting 2-Mile Hill and Badili was largely deserted. Only a few vehicles braved the route, as commuters feared being pelted with stones or caught in the crossfire.

The Super Value Store [SVS], usually a hub of activity, was also forced to close its doors to prevent looting by opportunists.

Public Motor Vehicles [PMVs] abandoned their usual routes, diverting through Sabama and Kaugere.

The first day of the 2026 academic year was marred as parents opted to keep children home for safety.

Many residents were seen trekking on foot to reach their destinations.

A City Warden supervisor confirmed to NBC National News that units are on high alert to ensure the safety of the public. While the situation reportedly quieted down around 2:00pm after a heavy police deployment, the atmosphere remains tense.

Authorities have urged motorists and residents to exercise extreme caution when traveling through 2-Mile and Badili.

NCD Governor Powes Parkop said he will address the media once he receives a formal police report regarding the weekend's events.
