Air Niugini will temporarily suspend all flights to Kiunga Airport starting 31 January 2026

In a statement, the national airline said the suspension will last for five months to allow the National Airports Corporation (NAC) to carry out essential runway maintenance and upgrade works.

Air Niugini will continue to operate direct flights between Port Moresby and Tabubil every Monday, Tuesday, Friday, and Saturday. The airline will also operate Mount Hagen to Tabubil services every Wednesday.

Flights to Kiunga are expected to resume by July 2026 using the larger and faster Q400 aircraft.

Air Niugini also advised that it will not cover the cost of land transport between Kiunga and Tabubil during the suspension period.
