DICT Secretary Steven Matainaho says this new digital platform is aimed at improving access to government services and reducing printing costs across Papua New Guinea.

The Department of Information and Communications Technology [DICT] has officially launched the SevisWallet App, now available for download on the Google Play Store.

SevisWallet is a digital wallet designed to safely store personal documents and identification cards. It will also allow citizens to access government services such as police clearance applications, crime reporting, and selected private services including bank account openings and loan applications.

DICT has already partnered with several banks to support the rollout of the platform.

A SevisWallet workshop will be held next month, where government departments will be encouraged to begin placing key documents into the digital system. These include public service IDs, Grade 12 certificates, police clearance certificates, academic records, driver’s licences, national IDs, land titles, and digital travel documents.

DICT says the move to digital documents will help reduce government spending on printing certificates and ID cards, especially at a time when funding is limited. Only the physical National ID will continue to be printed.

The department also says SevisWallet will help government agencies work better together by linking systems that currently operate separately.

The Department of ICT is calling on key agencies, including the National Department of Education, to support the initiative, starting with the digitisation of Grade 12 certificates.

DICT says the SevisWallet platform will improve service delivery, strengthen security, and make access to government services faster and easier for citizens across the country.
