Prime Minister James Marape left the country this afternoon to attend the 56th World Economic Forum Annual Meeting in Davos-Klosters, Switzerland.

Papua New Guinea’s participation in the global forum is seen as significant, as world leaders, global investors, and international institutions gather to discuss key economic, development, and investment priorities.

Before departing, Prime Minister Marape briefed the nation at a media conference, saying PNG’s presence at the forum is important as it provides an opportunity to present the country’s investment agenda, key messages, and diplomatic priorities to global leaders.

“This year, we have been given prime speaking time, and I will be addressing public sessions.” Marape said.

The Prime Minister assured the public that this level of participation is vital for PNG’s growth and development. He described the World Economic Forum as a global platform for innovation, policy thinking, and future-focused solutions.

“These discussions shape public policy and economic direction worldwide. This marks the third consecutive year that Papua New Guinea has received a private invitation directly from the World Economic Forum.” Marape said.

Mr Marape added that many countries do not receive this privilege. He said the Forum Director invited PNG to present its strategic position and explain how the country balances bilateral relationships amid growing geopolitical competition in the Asia-Pacific region.

Meanwhile, Deputy Prime Minister John Rosso will serve as Acting Prime Minister during Mr Marape’s one-week absence.
