The National Capital District Provincial Health Authority [NCDPHA] Chief Executive, Dr Robin Oge, has commended the Metoreia Urban Health Centre [MUHC] for completing one year of service to the community.

Dr Oge said the health centre has done well in providing safe and quality maternal health care to the Motu Koita people and the wider NCD community.

He said that since opening, the centre has recorded 511 safe births at its labour ward. He added that the clinic has helped more women and families in NCD, especially Motu Koita mothers, to access maternal health services.

Dr Oge also commended the strong support and partnerships between the health centre, local leaders, and international partners, which have helped improve health services.

He said the success of the clinic is mainly due to the hard work and commitment of the midwives and medical staff.

Special recognition was given to the midwives led by Sister Ruth Roboam, and the medical team including Dr Tore, Dr Shalom Nouairi, and Health Extension Officers Issiah Mongri and Kerolyn Kolapen.

Dr Oge said their work during labour, delivery and after birth has helped keep mothers and babies safe. He added that their caring and professional attitude has built trust with the community.

He thanked the staff, management, partners and community members of Metoreia Urban Health Centre for working together to reach this important milestone.

Dr Oge said the achievement shows what can happen when health workers and communities work together to improve maternal and child health in Port Moresby.
