Residents of Port Moresby and Central Province are urged to maintain distance from power lines and power poles as PNG power crews work on restoring power.

The persistent heavy rain and windy weather have caused significant damage to power infrastructure along the Magi Highway and coastal areas of Central Province. Nevertheless, the PNG Power Ltd Kwikila team, with support from the Port Moresby technical team, has been working continuously through the weekend and into this week.

On Monday 12th January the main power line for Boroko Feeder 8 areas and Hula Village fault was rectified and supply was fully restored.

Gabagaba, Gaire and Bonenamo villages are yet to be restored.

The PNG Power Ltd crews will be clearing the fallen trees, remove tree branches, erecting power poles and will be doing line clearance to ensure power supply will be fully restored today.

Residents in Central and Nation's Capital are warned to distance from all power lines and poles and report hazards to PNG power immediately.
