Popondetta district launches youth sustainability initiative with project support
The Popondetta District has launched a new initiative aimed at empowering local youths through sustainable development projects. To kickstart the program, the district recently presented a chainsaw valued at K2,500 to the Niugini Compound youths within Ward One of the Popondetta Urban LLG.
The equipment was delivered over the weekend by Popondetta District electoral officers. Speaking during the presentation, Eddie Kabuni, spokesperson for the electoral team, emphasized that this is only the beginning of a year-long commitment to youth engagement.
"This assistance will continue throughout the year to ensure our youth fully participate in sustainable projects," Kabuni said. "By engaging in these initiatives, we aim to reduce crime within our wards and communities. Take ownership of this asset and use it to build your future."
Bruce Guba, leader of the Niugini Compound youths, expressed gratitude toward Richard Masere, Minister for Administrative Services and Member for Popondetta, for prioritizing youth-led development.
"We are thankful for this vision. We will ensure this chainsaw is put to good use so that every youth in Niugini Compound benefits from this asset," Guba said.
The group plans to use the chainsaw to clear land for a new piggery project. To ensure the venture’s success, the district also provided K10,000 in seed capital to help the youths establish and maintain the project moving forward.
